Jewelry Care

All of my jewelry is handmade in 22k gold with ring bands, ear wires, bails, and clasps in 20k for added strength. I create my own gold sheet and wire, and use hand-held tools to craft each piece. As a result, my jewelry will carry some of the marks of the goldsmithing process in the gold itself. Each unique piece may have slight differences in size, shape, and/or stones.

I alloy all of my gold using the same 22k gold alloy found in ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome. The gold jewelry of the ancient world has survived for millennia, however please be aware that high-karat gold (ie, 22k and 20k) is softer than 18k or 14k, which have a lower proportion of gold. Although high-karat gold may scratch more easily, these marks capture the story of your life. The signature brushed matte finish on your 22k jewelry will burnish into a beautiful patina with a soft glow over time.

Each of my pieces is made with careful consideration to the wearability of ancient designs in modern times. If you want to minimize scratches, store your 22k jewelry individually in a soft cloth, pouch, or cloth-lined box where it will not come into contact with other jewelry. Try to avoid dropping or banging your jewelry against hard surfaces, as it may dent or deform. Do not expose your jewelry to sprays and lotions, cleaning products, or other chemicals, and avoid swimming, showering, or washing your hands while wearing your jewelry, as water can become trapped under settings and inside hollow forms. Please be aware that some gemstones, including emeralds, moonstones, and pearls, can scratch easily as well.

Although gold jewelry does not tarnish, it can become dirty with wear. To clean your jewelry, use a gentle dish soap and a soft toothbrush. Chains and all-gold pieces can be soaked in soapy water first, but as noted above, do not submerge closed-back stones.
